Qualcomm chipsets power next-gen Windows phones

Qualcomm is working with Microsoft on its next generation of Windows phones.

Qualcomm’s highly integrated MSM7xxx-series and Snapdragon chipsets will allow manufacturers to design handsets that are slimmer and more power-efficient, but which are still able to offer advanced functionality.

Tom Gibbons, of Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business Group, said: “Qualcomm chipsets provide the performance and technology necessary to deliver on the vision of a personalized, productive phone that ensures real-time information and powerful applications are always at a person’s fingertips”.

Windows Phones powered by Qualcomm include the HTC HD2, HTC Touch Pro 2, HTC Touch2, LG GM750, Toshiba TG01, Samsung Omnia II, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 and HTC Touch Diamond 2.

In a separate piece of news, Qualcomm has called for the release of more wireless spectrum, to help address the current demands of wireless data traffic.

Speaking at the CTIA Fall 2017 conference, Irwin Jacobs, the company’s founder and chairman, also asked for Net neutrality regulation to be relaxed, because it could restrict operators’ ability to manage their networks.
